Two years ago, a senior in the industry mentioned in his article: The industrial Internet is too hot, and the world-level, national-level, and provincial-level conferences are surging everywhere. Shangyun is a thriving scene, but people at the industrial site have another argument: stable and reliable production lines, understanding of process know-how, and pursuit of cost reduction and efficiency increase cannot be achieved overnight.

Two years later, when the vast majority of people have not figured out what the Industrial Internet is, we ushered in the upsurge of 5G+Industrial Internet. Looking at it separately, 5G and Industrial Internet are each hot, plus Together, the heat is even more conceivable.

Nowadays, instead of being satisfied with only building network channels in the past, the direct entry of the four major operators such as China Mobile and China Unicom has given us an obvious signal: 5G + industrial Internet is a good business (at least a big outlet). Get in now.

However, 5G+ industrial Internet is easier said than done. It can be said that the excitement is the excitement, but most industrial people may really have a feeling that “the excitement belongs to them, and I have nothing”. A lot of powerlessness and helplessness.

Above the air outlet, a group of “pigs” danced wildly

From the perspective of the industrial Internet alone, it is no longer a new concept, and this outlet has already become the consensus of the industry.

The disappearance of the demographic dividend, the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, and the advent of the industrial Internet era have made the industrial Internet the second half of the Internet. Giants are vying to enter the game, and there are many schools of martial arts.

Leading industrial companies represented by Siemens, Sany Heavy Industry, Foxconn, Haier, etc., regard the industrial Internet as their own business; large Internet companies headed by BAT are trying to find A new blue ocean; ICT companies represented by Huawei, Inspur, and UFIDA hope to gain a share of this emerging market through their own digital technology.

With the addition of 5G, the entrants have added the four major operators. Although the current “what role does the operator play in the entire 5G+ industrial Internet process?” is still unclear to many people in the industry and even the operators themselves It is a clear question, but what is certain is that they will not be willing to divide only a small piece of the big cake of 5G+ industrial Internet.

“5G, Industrial Internet, and AI will support the development of the digital economy with a tripartite confrontation.” Wu Hequan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, pointedly pointed out the significance of 5G and the Industrial Internet to the development of the digital economy.

As a result, various industry conferences, ecological conferences, and industry forums led by operators have come one after another, dazzling. Take the first China 5G+ Industrial Internet Conference that has just ended. The figure of the operators, the busy operators, while actively promoting the application of 5G, can’t help but make people feel self-satisfied.

Judging from the lineup of speakers alone, the strength of “industrial enterprises” is indeed a bit weak, and no matter which forum they go to, the participation of operators and ICT enterprises seems to be higher.

Some people in the industry complained: “Everywhere I go, operators are preaching, which shows how anxious they are.”

Of course, it is understandable that operators who spend a lot of money on the construction of 5G base stations are working hard to promote the implementation of 5G + industrial Internet. However, some practitioners in the industrial field have expressed their concerns: 5G, as an information technology, is integrated with the industrial Internet. In the end, it will be implemented in the industry, but at present, a group of people who do not understand the industry are leading this matter, which seems a bit paradoxical.

However, the deployment of 5G + industrial Internet by industrial enterprises cannot bypass operators at present, mainly because in China, the 5G spectrum is in the hands of operators. This is an unavoidable problem , but who is leading and what is the division of labor? None of these seem to have a clear answer.

According to people familiar with the matter, at present, whether it is equipment manufacturers, industrial enterprises, or operators, in the process of promoting the integration of 5G + industrial Internet, they are still in a state of confusion about the division of labor and have not formed an orderly cooperation model. , the current cooperation is still mainly random.

What needs to be confirmed is that the active promotion of operators has also achieved some results. According to Xiao Yaqing, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in terms of the integration of 5G and industrial Internet, there are more than 1,100 construction projects across the country, and machine vision detection, precise remote A series of application results such as control, on-site auxiliary assembly, intelligent logistics, unmanned inspection and security.

With a little attention, we can see that these application results are mainly focused on point applications, and have not really formed surface changes. In fact, 5G and the industrial Internet, as key elements to promote the development of the digital economy, still have a long way to go in the industrial field.

Xu Xiaolan, president of the China Industrial Internet Research Institute, pointed out that due to the barriers between industries, it is difficult to form a cross-industry, reproducible, and scalable solution for the application and promotion of the industrial Internet.

Zhou Ji, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, also believes that the current application of the industrial Internet and 5G is only in the stage of digitalization and networking, and the more advanced technological upgrade of the new generation of intelligent manufacturing of 5G + industrial Internet is still to come . For example, smart factories will use the new generation of integrated 5G + industrial Internet Application, realize the upgrade of processing quality, optimize the processing technology, accelerate the health protection of the process, intelligent scheduling and management of production, and build a real smart factory.

Shi Wei, former director of the Industrial Office of the Economic System and Management Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that for small and medium-sized manufacturing companies with relatively backward equipment levels , the situation of digital transformation is still severe . At present, more than 90% of enterprises in my country’s manufacturing industry are small and medium-sized enterprises. The existing equipment of most of these enterprises does not yet have the ability of intelligent digital collection.

Under the wind, there are many contradictions

How good the prospect of 5G+ industrial Internet is, how helpless the current contradiction is.

“Ice and fire” is the reality that many people in the industry complain about in the 5G industry era. Behind this is also a dilemma of 5G+ industrial Internet: the louder the shouting, the more obvious the “prisoner’s dilemma”.

1. Different professional backgrounds make it difficult to bridge the knowledge gap.

At present, there are people from different professional backgrounds who talk about 5G+ industrial Internet, some traditionally do CT, some do communication technology, and some do industrial IT technology, automation technology, etc. There will inevitably be some obstacles in communication. How to make industrial practitioners It is a problem that needs to be solved first, so that readers understand the latest information technology, and let information technology personnel understand industrial processes and processes.

“Don’t rely on those high-level white papers, you need to go deep into popular cases to explain a problem thoroughly, and don’t assume that each of us understands these technical terms, such as what 5G data slicing is. In fact, I am not very familiar with it. I understand, so there should be more people who don’t understand.” Huang Pei, CEO of e-works, said.

The real problem that Huang Pei encountered was: an expert in the field of intelligent manufacturing, even if you put the case in front of him and told him that the case is feasible, he would still be skeptical.

In Huang Pei’s view, it is necessary to truly explain the concepts and technologies thoroughly, rather than floating on the surface. “There are too many conceptual terms now. I hope that everyone will not pile up new terms, but talk about something that enterprises can really understand, so that it can be widely used in technology. Second, considering the gap between ideals and reality distance.”

2. The network is not fundamental, but cost reduction and efficiency enhancement are the key

“Enterprises actually focus on efficiency. I don’t care if it is 3G, 4G, or 5G. The first thing I think of is what benefits it can bring to the enterprise.” Dong Mingkai, vice president of Sany Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute, said that in his It seems that the network is not the focus of enterprises, but how to reduce costs and increase efficiency through the application of information technology is the focus of enterprises.

Therefore, to repeatedly promote the characteristics and advantages of 5G and “5G will change society”, it is really better to come up with a benchmark case that can meet the requirements of enterprises. The real data is in front of you, which is king . However, the real problem may be: the current The proposed scheme is still not up to the scheme that can improve the efficiency of the enterprise and allow the enterprise to pay back the cost in the short term.

Not to mention the cost of millions, tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions of companies building their own 5G networks. From the perspective of 5G industrial modules alone, it is reported that the current lowest price is nearly 1,000 yuan. 5G CPE, 5G industrial gateways, etc. Prices are also on the high side. Even a large company like Midea has encountered cost bottlenecks. Zhang Xiaoyi, vice president of Midea Group, said that there are currently too many 5G modules, and there is no room for more space in the motor; in addition, the price is too high, and the charging standard has not been widely adopted use. Based on this, Zhang Xiaoyi called on module manufacturers and the three major operators to jointly launch commercial solutions.

3. Process know-how is a difficult threshold

For a long time, in enterprises crossing borders into the industrial field, there is a “knot” that has always been difficult to effectively solve-the problem of know-how of technology.

Every vertical industrial industry has applied know-hows, which are accumulated decades of experience by people in the industry . For practitioners who do not understand the industrial field, they will definitely encounter problems during the actual promotion process. to various problems.

As Zhang Yong, chairman and CEO of Alibaba Group, mentioned in his speech: The Industrial Internet is very difficult because it is not an industrial Internet, but a 360-line industrial Internet. The problems and technical solutions to be solved by the Industrial Internet in each industry are similar, but also very different.

In fact, the complexity of the industrial application environment is not only reflected in the different characteristics of different industries, but also in the fact that the industrial production environment is relatively complex and has many interference factors. Even in the same industry, different companies have different difficulties. Different process production lines have to face different problems.

Of course, many companies are also aware of this problem and intend to cultivate some interdisciplinary talents with communication technology background, industrial background and Internet background, but obviously, the growth rate or expansion speed of these interdisciplinary talents is far behind the industry pace of development.

This is a question worth thinking about.

As people in the industry have said, it may be an idea to spend a lot of money on infrastructure and new infrastructure, and vigorously support enterprises to go to the cloud, but whether more market-oriented enterprises can be allowed to lead the process of 5G + industrial Internet, so that more industries Enterprises can talk about the current pain points and difficulties of integration . After all, 5G+ industrial Internet will eventually be implemented in the industrial field.

In the process of participation , can companies from different backgrounds let go of their prejudices and truly bring out their respective advantages ; can operators be more proactive in service and response; can industrial companies be more open and provide More room for trial and error; can Internet companies be more patient and maintain awe of the industrial site.

Despite all the helplessness, the 5G+ industrial Internet has just taken a small step, and there is still a long way to explore in the future, so we need to be more patient and confident. China has taken the lead in 5G technology. If everyone has a mentality that has nothing to do with me, then 5G and the industrial Internet will hardly become the driving force for China to transform from a manufacturing power to a manufacturing power. We have already missed the waves of the previous industrial revolutions. , this time, I hope not to miss it.
